Verdict up front: Trading Bots Powered by Deriv is published by Synthetic Indices Apps — not by Deriv. It promises “Profit protection” and “Loss protection” on leveraged synthetic instruments, is rated Teen, and its own promotional graphic reads “BAN THIS APP!!”

The graphic the developer chose

The feature image on this listing shows a distressed man holding a phone, beside a red banner in large capitals: “BAN THIS APP!!” Behind it sits a “Powered By deriv” logo.

It is presumably meant as bravado — the app so effective that brokers want it banned. Read plainly, it is a promotional asset telling a prospective user that the product invites prohibition, published on a store where ten thousand people have installed it.

“Powered by Deriv” is not the same as “by Deriv”

The publisher is Synthetic Indices Apps. The package identifier is com.derivbot.app. Deriv’s name and mark appear in the title, the icon and the trailer.

Synthetic indices are Deriv’s own proprietary instruments — price series generated by a random number engine rather than by any real market. A third party writing automated bots for someone else’s product, and putting that company’s name in the app title, is borrowing a reputation it has not built.

The two promises that cannot be kept

The description says: “We have Profit protection as well, this will ensure that your profits is secured once you reach a certain threshold” and “equipped with Loss protection which prevents losses from running away.”

Neither is possible. A bot can place a stop order; it cannot guarantee the price it fills at, and on a synthetic instrument that gaps, a stop can execute well beyond its level. “Ensure” and “prevents” are guarantee words, and no automated strategy on a leveraged product can honour them.

Note also the grammar — “your profits is secured”. This is the text a user reads before trusting the app with an account that can place live trades.

Rated Teen

Google Play gives this listing a Teen content rating. A tool that automates leveraged derivatives trading is presented to the store as suitable for teenagers. Nothing about synthetic indices is suitable for a thirteen-year-old, and nothing in the rating system is designed to catch that.

What synthetic indices actually are

They are not markets. They are price series produced by a random number generator, offered with leverage, running twenty-four hours a day with no weekend close. There is no underlying asset, no news to analyse and no fundamental value — which means there is nothing for a bot to be right about. An automated strategy on a random series produces a random result, minus the spread.
