Your balance looks healthy, you press withdraw, and a message appears. Pay a tax first and the funds will be released. This is one of the most common traps in crypto fraud, and this guide explains why you should not send a cent.
The pattern you will notice
Pay once and the money does not arrive. Instead a new reason appears. A bigger tax band, a compliance hold, a fine for a late payment. Each demand is designed to pull one more transfer out of you while hope is still alive. The requests end only when you stop sending.
crypto tax clearance fee scam: What to do right now
- Send nothing more, whatever the deadline or threat says.
- Screenshot the balance, the withdrawal page and every tax demand.
- Save the hashes and addresses of what you already paid.
- Report to your bank if a card or transfer was used to buy the crypto.
- File with a fraud centre such as the FTC or Action Fraud.

Signs you are inside this scam
- ✗ A fee is demanded before any withdrawal clears
- ✗ You are told to pay the platform, not a tax office
- ✗ Each payment unlocks a new charge
- ✗ A manager pushes you to act before a deadline
Could it be a genuine tax I owe?
Real tax is settled with a government after you receive funds, never paid to a platform to unlock them.
If I pay the fee, will the money come? No. The balance was never real, and paying only invites the next demand.
One real case
A woman saw 32,000 dollars on her dashboard after weeks of small deposits. Withdrawal asked for a 15 percent tax. She paid it, then faced an anti money laundering fee, then a final release charge. Only when she searched the platform name and found other victims did she stop. The dashboard figure was fiction. The three fees were the only real money that ever moved, and it moved to the scammers.
How the trap is built
You are shown a dashboard with a rising balance. It feels real because the numbers move. When you try to take the money out, a new demand appears. Pay a tax, a clearance fee, an insurance cost or a conversion charge, and only then will the withdrawal go through. The balance was never real. The demand is the whole point.
Why no real tax works this way
Tax is settled with a government, never paid to a trading platform to unlock your own money. No honest exchange holds your funds hostage until you wire a fee to them. If a withdrawal can only happen after you send more money to the same people who hold your balance, you are not looking at tax. You are looking at a scam collecting a second payment.
